An animated hen comes to life in this beautiful turned vase. This beautiful Hen Subject is finished with a glossy sheen, allowing the light to reflect the highlights and textures unique to the piece. The white hen is accented by decorative blue engobe detail, hand-painted throughout, giving this work a whimsical yet elegant touch characteristic of Picasso's talent and artistry. Its fluted spout forms the long, graceful neck of the hen while the delicately curved sides imitates its tufted tail feathers.
Created in 1954, this turned vase of white earthenware with decoration on white enamel (blue, black) is knife engraved. From the edition of 150, this work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EDITION PICASSO' pottery stamps on the underside.
