Pablo Picasso Owl, 1957
A cartoonish and bold owl shows off his feathers while accentuating the graceful beauty of the circular dish. Each plume curves with the lines of the plate decorating the rim with a striking contrasting pattern of organic lines and playful dots. We admire his impressive wingspan while enjoying the intricate details for all their beauty.
Created in 1957, this turned round dish of red earthenware clay, with engobe decoration in black, knife engraved decoration, and decorated back is from the numbered edition of 150. This work has the hand inscription 'EDITION PICASSO MADOURA,' with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'D'APRES PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse.
