Pablo Picasso Madoura Plate, Sun, 1968-1969

Atop a cushion of white, fluffy clouds with a touch of yellow in the background, this particular Sun is featured with an organic, earthly quality that echoes the Earth. Its facial details - eyebrows, nose, and teeth - are complimented by the curves and valleys of the impression itself, whose finished gloss reflects light. This Little Sun appears to be radiating a cheerful glow, instilling any space in which it is placed with a sense of warmth and joy.

Created in 1968-1969, this original rectangular plaque of red earthenware clay with engobe ground and engraving enhanced with oxides (white, 2 blues, green, yellow) under partial brushed glaze is from the edition of 100. This work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse.
