Pablo Picasso Madoura Ceramic, Visage, 1963
Constructed from the purest materials, Picasso transforms a simple plate with a few whimsical and gestural lines that adorn the clay surface. Kind eyes and a bashful grin infuse this work with joy while an outlandish moustache made of a triangle pattern provides a comedic undertone. It is nearly impossible not to smile back at this friendly ceramic piece.
Created in 1955, this rounded square of red earthenware clay is from the edition of 100. This work is stamped with the 'madoura plein feu' and 'empreinte originale de picasso' pottery stamps on the reverse.
