Historical Description

Pablo Picasso Little Solar Face, 1968-1969

Atop a cushion of white, fluffy clouds, this particular sun-like face features an organic, earthly quality. Its facial details - eyebrows, eyes, nose, and mouth - are complemented by the curves and valleys of the impression itself, whose finished gloss reflects light. This Little Solar Face appears to be radiating a cheerful glow, instilling any space in which it is placed with a sense of warmth and joy.

Created in 1968-1969, this square plaque of red earthenware clay with engobe ground, engraving enhanced with oxides (white, blue, black, green) under partial brushed glaze is numbered from the edition of 100. This work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse.
