A mysterious masked face gazes out from one side of this work while, on the reverse, we observe the face of a charming faun. Notable for its multi-faceted nature, this piece depicts two images within one work. The monochromatic masked face on the front of this work smiles with joy yet retains an element of mystery, with an oval mask covering its eyes and nose, while the faun's face on the reverse features a bold graphic design, conveyed through bold ivory, green, and black hues.

Created in 1956, this round/square dish of white earthenware clay with decoration in engobes (ivory, green, black) under partial brushed glaze on the reverse is from the edition of 100. This work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse.
