Historical Description

Pablo Picasso Dove Subject, 1959 A.R. 435; An animated dove comes to life in this beautiful turned vase. This beautiful Dove Subject is finished with a glossy sheen, allowing the light to reflect the highlights and textures unique to the piece. The white dove is accented by decorative blue engobe detail, hand-painted throughout, giving this work a whimsical yet elegant touch characteristic of Picasso's talent and artistry. Its fluted spout forms the long, graceful neck of the dove while the delicately curved handle imitates its tufted tail feathers.

Created in 1959, this turned vase of white earthenware clay with decoration in engobes (blue, black) is knife engraved on enamel. From the edition of 500, this work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EDITION PICASSO' pottery stamps on the underside.
