Pablo Picasso Chouette ébouriffée (Ruffled Owl), 1955 AR 292

An homage to Picasso’s own beloved bird, this owl evokes wisdom and character. With beautiful brown and white coloring that has been engraved with indentions to make it as realistic as possible, every piece on this ceramic brings the owl to life. This owl is like none of Picasso’s other works allowing it a special place in his oeuvre, and with an effortless sense of symmetry and design, this work commands attention.

Created in 1955, this turned vase of white earthenware clay with engobe decoration engraved by knife and boring-rod (brown, white) is from the edition of 25. This work is stamped with the ‘MADOURA’ and ‘EDITION PICASSO’ pottery stamps on the underside.
