Pablo Picasso Bird and Fishes, 1955
Seen as homage to land and sea, this exquisite vase is decorated with a delicate grid of fish and birds, two of his most favorite subjects. With clean and simple lines, subtle raised relief defines the features of the animals that travel across the surface. Using only the earthy and warm Russet color, this piece is filled with contrast. Displaying a restrained gracefulness, the patterns curve with the shape of the vase with natural ease.
Created in 1953, this large vase of white earthenware clay with engobe and paraffin decoration (russet)is from the edition of 25. This work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' pottery stamps on the bottom.
