Historical Description

A woman is elegantly portrayed in bright lines, as if light up in the night. With flirty eyes and lips that draw you in, and blue flowing hair, it's like a dream or fantasy almost; not quite real, but you can't seem to turn away from her because she is simply captivating. Between the strong line work and bold color choices, this work is one of Picasso's more unique ceramic offerings as we rarely see a woman portrayed so freely and uninhibited in his works.

Created in 1953, this rectangular dish was created with white earthenware clay, featuring decoration in engobes, knife engraved under the glaze colored in blue, green, white and black. From the edition of 400, this work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EDITION PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse.
