Mr. Brainwash Everyday Life, 2019 is a playfully rich composition of Jackson Pollock-esque paint splatters, stenciled forms, and culturally significant imagery. A thoughtful baby chimp looks over its shoulder, brandishing a can of spray paint labelled with a Cambell soup can design (an reoccurring item in Mr. Brainwash’s work). The chimp is perched on a Coca Cola cooler, one of the many pop-culture images of capitalism peppered throughout the work. The others include a comic strip of Snoopy and Mickey Mouse, the repetition of the Warholian “Tomato Spray” and a radiant graffiti silhouette born of Keith Haring’s oeuvre. The entire composition is layered with references to the art world, consumerism, and culture that has dominated our society in the last half a century. At the very foreground sit three spray-painted words, ostensibly created by the benevolent ape: “FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.” The sentence read humorously, looking bot positive and irreverent in this colorful world of allusions and icons. This eye-catching and dynamic piece easily captures the wit and brilliance of Mr. Brainwash’s unparalleled style.
Created in 2019, Mr. Brainwash Everyday Life is a silkscreen and mixed media on paper. This work is hand signed by Mr. Brainwash (Garges-lès-Gonesse 1966 - ). This is a unique and original work.
