Historical Description

In Marc Chagall Le Bouquet Rouge et Jaune (Red and Yellow Bouquet), 1974, a bountiful bouquet of colorful flowers bursts forth in this stunning print. Sticking to his trademark style, Chagall utilizes soft black outlines to keep the colors in harmony allowing for the composition to come alive. The vibrant reds, bright yellows, and soft natural greens stand apart, but also mix together to create layers of color that bring depth and complexity to the lithograph. A voluptuous composition, the bouquet captures the eye but subtly to the right is a couple embracing. Also to the right is a horse highlighted in yellow and a delicate white dove near the top of the image. Nearly all the space is utilized, filled with soft, arched forms or enchanting color that contribute to the elegant and beautiful nature of this magnificent piece.

Created in 1974, this original color lithograph is published by Editions Maeght, Paris and is hand signed by Marc Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887 - Saint-Paul, 1985) in pencil in the lower right and numbered from the edition of 50 (aside from the 10 artist's proofs in Roman numerals) in pencil in the lower left.
