Historical Description

In Marc Chagall's Bouquet à la Tour Eiffel (Bouquet with Eiffel Tower), 1958, a large, bouquet  of red, orange and yellow flowers sits upon a table, dominating the center of the composition. Chagall does not focus on the shapes of the flowers but rather their coloring, using soft, swirling painterly strokes to suggest the arrangement of beautiful flowers. The rest of the composition is articulated with soft, warm ochre tones which serve to emphasize the beauty of the flowers Chagall so skillfully renders. To the lower right, a figure stands behind the central image with a hand gently placed on her chest. To the left stands, as the title suggests, an artistic representation of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Created in 1974, this lithograph is hand signed by Marc Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887 - Saint-Paul, 1985) in pencil in the lower right margin and  numbered 90 in pencil in the lower left margin.
