Historical Description

Leonardo Nierman Genesis; Bursting with vibrant color, Leonardo Nierman painting Genesis is certainly captivating. Nierman did not begin his artistic career as a painter or visual artist, but rather as a violinist. For many years he pursued music very seriously, until, as the anecdote goes, he heard his own playing in a recording that decided that he had to stop. It was not long after this that Nierman began experimenting with painting. He found that painting in colors has the same rhythms and tonal shifts as music – but in a different medium. Nierman captures music, sound, rhythms, and emotion in his painting in new and exciting ways. The colors dance across the canvas with ebbs and flows just like the notes of a symphony.

Nierman Genesis encapsulates all of this. Rushing in from all directions are a veritable rainbow of colors from deep blues and purples, to fiery yellow, red and orange. Nierman uses a lot of black and white in his works in order to highlight his use of color. Genesis therefore has a dark, black background, but it is a colorful piece. The colors seem to drop from all edges and seep out of the shadows to fill the canvas with light. The inspiration that music had on Nierman’s work is clear when looking at Genesis – it is a musical piece where colors dive like notes and fill the air with melodies.
