Historical Description

Keith Haring Heart, 1988 is an intimate work featuring two of the artist’s iconic humanoid figures. These forms are rendered in a soft violet over a background of pastel blue and pink. The two forms stand facing each other on either side of the composition with their knees bent and their arms bent at the elbows. The heads necks of the two figures  extend toward the center of the composition, and where their heads should touch the artist illustrates a circle with a bright red heart in the center. The blue ground on which they stand on is accentuated with short bold black lines, and in the gentle pink sky the artist renders numerous action lines emerging from them. In the upper right corner, a small black circle with a cross in the center floats, and in the upper left corner, the number 88 is written with the same line weight which references the year of this work’s creation. The works petite size, small edition size, and subject matter regarding love make this an intimate work that is captivating to the eye.

Created in 1988, Keith Haring Heart, 1988 silkscreen on canvas is hand-signed by Keith Haring (Reading, 1958 – New York, 1990) in pencil in the lower margin and numbered from the edition of 20 in pencil in the lower margin.
