Historical Description

Composed in an elegant landscape composition, this marvelous work utilizes the longer format to express a sense of narrative story telling. A calligraphic line journeys across the artwork, drawing the eye across a field of splattered colors and layered ephemera, arrows and stars intertwined with patterns of emerald circles. With his gestural use of line and bold maneuvering of color, we hunt for the symbolic meaning embedded in his recurring signs.

Part of the series Le Lézard aux plumes d’or, this lithograph is one of eighteen from the series that was created by Miró to accompany his poem of the same title. Created in 1967, this work is hand signed in pencil by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma, 1983) in the lower right and numbered from the edition of 20 in pencil in the lower left margin.
