Joan Miró Plate 15 from Album 21, 1978 has an inquisitive looking figure on the left, and on the right, an inanimate object that appears to be made from the same shapes as the figure. The body of the figure is made from a dark, textured circle, which also exists in the upper portion of the object to the right. Both are flanked by vertical brown and green lines that serve to break up the image, but also to frame the face of the figure. The big eyes, rimmed in turn with red and green, peer out and the mouth is set in a straight line. Although on first glance it may look crowded, it is indeed a harmonious composition. The yellow spots that appear in the center of the figure, as well as in the upper and lower right help to bring the piece together.
Created in 1978, this color lithograph on Arches paper is hand signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right. Created in 1978 this work was one of twenty one illustrations Miró executed for Carlos Franqui’s collection of poetry entitled Album 21. Numbered from the edition of 75 in pencil in the lower left, aside from the edition of 15 artist’s proofs, Miro Plate 15 from Album 21 is published by Maeght Éditeur, Paris and printed by Mourlot, Paris.
