Historical Description

Miro showcases his skilled handling of carborundum in this marvaleous work. This particular piece features more of the rich and beautiful texture than any of his other prints, evident throughout the black areas. Emerging at the center is a hilarious character with a devious smile. Surrounded by vivid coloration, La Fronde, which translates to “slingshot,” is a truly spectacular example of Miro’s creativity and mastery of surreal imagery.

Created in 1969, this color etching, aquatint, and carborundum is hand-signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in white pencil in the lower right. Published by Maeght Éditeur, Paris, this piece is numbered from the edition of 75.
