Joan Miró Je travaille comme un jardinier (I work like a gardener), 1963 is a playful lithograph full of interesting used of color and line. Miró often uses blotches of color across his works to introduce complexity and liveliness. Here, Miró has created colors that look wet – upon looking closely at the brilliant yellow, red, blue, green, and other warm tones, lighter colors radiate out from the central splotch as if paint dropped in water. The bold black lines that make up the border are punctuated by similarly wet black dots. This brings great texture to the lithograph and adds a swift life to it – frozen in time just as it was right after Miró added the colors in 1963.
