Historical Description

Joan Miró Homenatge à Joan Prats (Homage to Joan Prats), 1975; Joan Prats was a close friend to Joan Miró who, as a great lover of the avant-garde, became an expert on his art. This color lithograph can be linked to previous works by the artist, such as a 1934 collage-drawing decorated with a number of hats in reference to Prats' millinery shop in Barcelona (Collection of Fundació Miró, Barcelona). Exuberant and expressive, this work pays fitting homage to a great supporter and friend - Prats played an important role in the Fundació Miró, donating his personal collection for public viewing. Collectors will appreciate the personal and artistic value of Homenatge à Joan Prats (Homage to Joan Prats), noting the play of bold and delicate texture and the drips and splatters of ink.

Created in 1975, this original color lithograph belongs to a series of 11 prints created by various artists for a book of the same title. Such artists as Calder, Chillida and Tàpies contributed works to the complete portfolio, which comprised a black cloth spine and red cloth ties. Printed by La Polígrafa, this work was published by Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona alongside a second, similar lithograph by the artist. Numbered from the edition of 100, this work was created aside from the 15 H.C. (hors commerce)and 10 P.A. copies. 450 copies of the book were also printed: 100 copies on Guarro containing the suite of 11 lithographs and numbered 1 to 100; 350 copies numbered 101 to 450.
