Historical Description

The whimsical Miró Partie de Campagne III (A Day in the Country III), 1967 is composed of criss-crossing thin black lines placed against bright dots of color. Dominating the composition is a large splatter of vibrant green that appears as if splashed across the sheet, contributing a sense of texture and animation. In the center of the composition, a lattice like structure leads the viewer's eye upwards, while the varied abstracted figures and forms throughout the composition provide a sense of balance and harmony. One finds it difficult to focus on a single component of this wonderfully captivating work. Bursts of yellow, pink, black and other colors pop up across the canvas. Each figure appears strikingly unique yet interacts perfectly with those around it.

Created in 1967, this color etching and aquatint is hand-signed in pencil by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in the bottom right margin and numbered 9/75 in pencil in the lower left margin. This work was published by Maeght Éditeur, Paris and printed by Arte Adrien Maeght, Paris.
