Miró's trademark black lines provide a stark contrast against the white of the sheet in Joan Miró Arlequin Circonscrit, 1973, allowing for the figure to take center stage. Even though it seems to be surrounded by other-worldly surroundings of rings, a moon, and stars; everything appears to gravitate towards the figure. Perhaps this is Miró's way of symbolizing the figure's rite of passage from one world into another as the figure embraces a new sense of self. Created in 1973, this color lithograph printed on Arches watermarked paper is hand-signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right and annotated HC (Hors de Commerce) in pencil in the lower left; aside from the numbered edition of 50. This work is published by Maeght Éditeur, Paris and printed by Arte Adrien Maeght, Paris.
