Historical Description

Created to accompany a book of poems titled ‘Espriu-Miró’ by Salvador Espriu, this work embodies the words of Espriu who was known to write about his homeland of Spain. With a mustached figure dominating the canvas, the emphasis is on the figures features that are highlighted in bright primary colors. Given Espriu’s fascination with the human condition and experience, it is a fascinating interpretation of his work by Miró showcasing his imaginative and mysterious artistic mind.

Created in 1975, this color etching with aquatint and carborundum on Guarro paper is from a series of nine etchings used in the book of poems ‘Espriu-Miró’ by Salvador Espriu.  Published by Sala Gaspar, Barcelona, this work is printed by J. J. Torralba, Barcelona.  Hand-signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right, this work is an artist's proof annotated HC (Hors de Commerce) in pencil in the lower left; aside from the numbered edition of 50.
