Historical Description

Joan Miró La Chasse aux Papillons (The Hunting of Butterflies), 1975 is a  wonderfully fun piece. A child in a hat and sneakers has his hands out stretched, attempts to capture a butterfly. Composed of lines and forms that are filled in with random colors of red, blue, green and yellow, Miró’ strategically places the bits of color in between, within, and underneath the black outlines of the figure. It’s as if the colors are frolicking along with the child, creating a pleasingly cohesive and humorous work.

Created in 1975, this color soft varnish, etching, and aquatint on Arches paper is hand-signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right. Numbered from the edition of 50 in pencil in the lower left, this work is published by Maeght, Paris and printed by Morsang, Paris.
