Historical Description

Stunning in color, design, and size, this bold, monumental work instantly commands the attention of a room. Measuring about 63 in x 48 in, Joan Miro Le Bagnard et sa Compagne, 1975 exudes the very essence of Miró. Thick black lines juxtapose with bright green, red, blue, and yellow to create a whimsical figure instilled with a sense of liveliness. Black splatters in the lower left corner relay the impression of paint on canvas while in the upper left, a large globular form captures the viewer's eye; nearly filled in, slight patches of white show through adding a sense of three dimensionality to this spherical form. Along the upper border, Miró's signature asterisk and arrow appear supersized, contributing to the playful nature of the piece while guiding the viewer's eye throughout this animated composition.

Created in 1975, this work is hand signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in white pastel in lower right. Numbered from the edition of 50 in pencil in the lower left.
