Comprised of a repetition of white flowers, this illustration from the book Le tir à l'arc (The Archery) exemplifies Braque's skill at evoking a sense of mood through abstraction. The soft, watercolor blue background brings to mind images of a cloud specked sky. We can almost imagine the flowers lined up in preparation for an archery tournament. They drift across the page, delicately composed with four or five petals. Thin, dark lines outline the flowers, etching details into the petals. Pieces of flower poke into the frame, implying that the field of flowers stretches on to infinity beyond the bounds of the lithograph. The cool, blue hue is calming, bringing us peace of mind upon viewing this lovely composition. The flowers rest peacefully on the bluish grey background and impart good feelings onto the viewer.

Created in 1960, this color lithograph is one of eight illustrations from the book Le tir à l'arc. This work is hand signed by Georges Braque (Argenteuil, Val-d'Oise, 1882 - Paris, 1963) in pencil in the lower right margin and numbered from the edition of 70 in pencil in the lower left margin; published by Louis Broder, Paris and printed on chine colle.
