Historical Description

Georges Braque Bouquet Jaune (Yellow Bouquet), c. 1950s; This stunning vase of a bright and colorful arrangement of flowers gives new meaning to the still life genre. Braque helped redefine the meaning of still lifes, adding a vibrant energy and evocative emotion inherent in the color and strokes of this work. The deep green of the vase helps bring out the delicate speckles of white flowers, which hang loosely over the side. The yellow flowers themselves appear to bleed in with the remaining tones of blues, oranges, and greens, allowing for a depth and richness that makes Braque's work extraordinary.

Created c. 1950s, this work is hand signed by Georges Braque (Argenteuil, Val-d'Oise, 1882 - Paris, 1963) in pencil in the lower right margin. An artist's proof annotated EA (Épreuve d'artiste) in the lower left in pencil (aside from the edition of 100), this work was published by Maeght, Paris.
