Historical Description

Fernand Léger Untitled, conceived 1952 makes full use of the vertical compositional space, stacking abstract shapes in low relief to create a fantastically lively and deep visual field. Bright green rectangles at the background are overlaid with a dynamic flame-like red form, diagonally topped with a curving yellow shape. All of the elements of the work are depicted in bright  colors and have the unique outlines of Léger's unique cubist style. The composition dances and vibrates, giving the piece an exuberant energy while retaining the formal beauty of ceramic work.  Léger's remarkable style, marked by  pure colors and playful shapes, is here effectively transferred into a 3D medium, resulting in a fantastic creation that redefines the possibilities of ceramic plaques.  Boasting all the artistic qualities Léger is famous for, this wonderful work is as much an important stylistic achievement as it is an eye-catching statement piece.

Conceived in 1952, this glazed ceramic plaque is signed with Fernand Léger's initials ‘F.L.’  and dated '52' in the lower right. This is a unique and original work.
