Historical Description

Fernand Léger La Fleur, Conceived 1952 is a work rich in striking colors that beautifully graces your field of vision. In the shape of a flower, this piece is anything but unconventional. Léger creates an anthropomorphic flower, as if it is walking in motion. Everything about this masterpiece is active and it appeals to the mastermind’s inner psyche as an artist. Its colors contrast one another in each petal that functions as a sort of limb or extension of the craft itself. This charming little sculpture has a body of asymmetrical elements that are fused together to form a complete masterpiece. One can see the interplay between Léger as a ceramicist and painter—he enlivens the colors onto a three dimensional object bringing forth an aspect of tactility.

Created in 1952, this ceramic sculpture is initialed ‘F.L.’ in rear foot and from the edition of 8.
