Historical Description

Arman Komposition Med Penslar, 1992; Executed in a vibrant hues of blue, orange, and red, Arman conveys an unlikely pairing of images, that of the paintbrush and the violin. Drawing upon the oratory and visual senses, this work entrances the viewer with its multitude of layers. Capturing the energy and movement needed to play the violin, Arman displays the instrument from varied perspectives which turn and oscillate against the picture plain. The bright oranges, blues, and reds of the paintbrushes pop out against the black background; these brushes, tilted in all directions, appear as if hastily at work, creating a visual representation of the musical instrument, the violin. Frankrike represents Arman's long held fascination with the violin, the artist adeptly captures both the solidity of the instrument and the emotional range of the music which it produces.

This original monotype silkscreen on canvas is hand signed by Fernandez Arman (Nice, 1928 – New York, 2005) in brown ink in the lower right.
