Historical Description

Surrounded by five angels, the Virgin Mary feeds Christ. In beautiful detail, each figure stands out from the rest with their own personality and offering while God watches from above. A touching scene, Dürer presents a tenderness in the forms that is rarely seen in his other woodcuts which makes this particular work a must have for collectors of the medium or master.

Created c. 1503-1504 this woodcut is monogrammed by Albrecht Dürer (Nuremburg, 1471 - Nuremburg, 1528) in the woodblock: ’AD’ on the slate in the lower right of the image. A meder (e) of (g) impression, this work is printed on a fine laid paper with a partial Eagle with Flower watermark (M 222, BR 262-263) dating this work to c. late 1500s.
