Inviting us to observe the often unnoticed beauty of everyday objects, Braque dedicates this still life work to the depiction of two objects: a teapot and a bunch of grapes. Braque does not included distracting details but rather strips the background of unnecessary detractions, depicting his subjects with rich, painterly strokes.

Depicting Renoir's favorite subject, this lovely print captures a sense of innocence and repose. The woman on the couch conveys grace and femininity while exuding tranquility. Renoir was more than comfortable working with nudes, and the absence of any hesitation in this piece is apparent.

Noteworthy for its rich sense of color and texture, this is one of Braque's boldest still life works. We feel as though we are gazing in on an array of personal belongings as we witness a pipe, a cup, and scattered papers upon a dotted tablecloth. With a few items Braque hints at the type of person that these objects may belong to, providing an indirect narrative to this stunning still life.

A rare ink signed progressive proof, this striking work highlights Roualt's tendency to overemphasize the often unusual personalities of his subjects. This fisherman is an intriguing subject as we take in his slightly forlorn face, his cutoff jeans, the sway of his body, and his disproportionately long arms.

This striking piece created by a student or follower of Rembrandt clearly shows the masterful training of its artist, as we witness a sharp contrast between the two figures. Through his use of light and shadow, the artist creates a dramatic difference between his two subjects, highlighting the figure on the left as the more noteworthy of the two.

Created after the original etching by Rembrandt, this piece displays an idealized portrait of the master himself. Varying in appearance from his other self-portraits, some scholars believe that this image conveys Rembrandt as he wished he appeared, not as he actually appeared.

A copy in reverse after the original etching by Harmensz van Rijn Rembrandt (Leiden, 1606 - Amsterdam, 1669), this dramatic work depicts one of the most celebrated biblical parables from the Old Testament. Notable is the strong use of light and shadow, creating a sharp chiaroscuro effect that illuminates the retreating angel while highlighting the shocked expressions on the figures to the right.

The ability to depict an abundance of Christian iconography, coupled with the beautiful prose associated with the work-combine to make this a landmark piece in the canon of Rembrandt's religious works. It is a fair assertion that the Hundred Guilder Print remains Rembrandt's most famous and desirable etched work.

One of Rembrandt's most detailed etchings, this print conveys the moment in which the angels inform the shepherds of Christ's birth. One of the strongest examples of Rembrandt's use of the chiaroscuro effect, we witness a sharp contrast between the heavenly light illuminating the angels in the upper left and the darkness of the shepherd's earthly surroundings below.

Rembrandt's technique of working in "live etching" format is clearly evident in this piece as the portrait has more active and fresh characteristics in the line and technique than in other portraits, which are reflective of the Master Artist's live interaction with his model, his own beloved mother. All of which enable the viewer to glimpse into the relationship and feelings Rembrandt had toward her, making it a truly touching work.

This captivating etching follows the Biblical tale of Jacob and Laban. Through the mastery of Rembrandt's use of line and shadow, Rembrandt adds a sense of depth and perspective to the piece, delineating the architecture of the house to the left and creating a clear foreground. The contrast and detail to scenery, in addition to keeping true to the story, make this work a great addition to any collection.

This work is listed as a lifetime impression, and as stated by Nowell-Usticke there are only approximately 125-155 known impressions making it a valuable investment.

The amount of respect Rembrandt had for his subject can be seen in this etching with the intricate lines that convey Sylvius's facial characteristics and the delicate cross-hatched lines that contribute a sense of depth and perspective within the work.

The bather in this work evokes a kind of sensuality that is characteristic of Renoir's interpretation of nude women. Renoir's subtle handling of his subject's body through delicate details is noteworthy in this work. Within this particular piece there is also an expert handling of light that, when mixed with the soft-ground medium, further evokes the quiet contemplative beauty of this young female subject.

Abraham Francen, a 17th Century Dutchman, was known as "The Apothecary" which is a historical name for a medical professional for those who created and dispensed medicine. The value in this work is the detail that Rembrandt gave to the surroundings of his subject, which offers us a deep look into the amount of passion Francen had for his profession.

Upon first look this work appears to be of a female child, but the child is in fact Claude Renoir, Renoir's son. Renoir's style was to feminize his sons by focusing on their long girlish hair, which was a representation of his bourgeois family lifestyle. Renoir presents quite an intimate rendering of his son, relaying a sense of familial care and devotion. This work is executed in a gestural fashion, as Renoir manipulates light and form to capture the triumphal youth of his child.

This work is likely a lifetime impression which means it was created from a plate made while Rembrandt was still alive. The subject is fascinating, as the man appears somewhat wary of his surroundings. The darkness of his face adds to the sense of mystery surrounding this subject making it a very rare and interesting work to own.

A valuable asset to any art collection, Les Baigneurs (The Bathers) is interesting for many reasons, the most important being the rarity of Rembrandt to depict multiple scenes in one etching. Rembrandt presents three situations. The first features a pair of subjects in the foreground, seemingly caught in action having just come out of the river after their bath. The second features a simplified form of a character reaching for their wrap or towel that appears to be either hanging or drying, as he too has just finished bathing. The third feature depicts a faint, intriguing silhouette of someone either waiting or observing the scene before us, adding a sense of mystery to the work.

Rembrandt creates a stark contrast between light and dark in this etching, with the woman's back turned toward the viewer. We cannot discern where the woman is or what she is doing, but she appears alone and somewhat helpless, a subject evoking human compassion.

This beautiful and poetic Biblical scene would be a great addition to any collection as Rembrandt has exercised artistic genius in his loving and celebratory portrayal of the Holy Family. The value of this piece comes from the fact that it is filled with delicate subtleties. From the offering to the audience to the background, Rembrandt becomes artist and theologian in this piece, providing a visual lamentation and celebration of this miraculous event in Christian history.

The Persian is an uncommon print of which there were 125-225 prints made, making this piece quite an asset to any collection. The mastery in Rembrandt's detail of the proud and confident man is quite inspiring and is classic to his style. Aside from the exquisite detail, the value in this work lies in Rembrandt placing his subject at the center of the composition, keeping the background to a minimum in order to highlight this curious subject from foreign lands.

Jakob Thomasz Haringh was the son of the elder Jacobsz Haringh (a prominent art auctioneer during the mid-17th century). The younger Jakob Haringh, featured here, is elegantly portrayed in an austere seated position by a multi-paned window. The value and craftsmanship of the work can be seen in the light that streams through and illuminates the majority of the work. This allows for a greater depth of field and sense of space within the portrait, making the work a great addition to any collection.

Created in honor of Miró's own life and success, Hommage a Joan Miró is a superb example of Miró's mastery of his craft. Through his use of carborundum, Miró achieves an astonishing amount of textural intricacy, while the image itself brings to mind scientific creation, as if living organisms are merging and diverging before our eyes.

Evoking a sense of light-heartedness, this double-sided, embossed work is perhaps one of Miró's most intriguing prints. Though minimal at first glance, upon further observation we begin to notice subtle details that contribute a sense of charm and wonder. The embossing offers a strong sense of texture best viewed in person, while the double sided nature of the piece provides two different images within one work, making this piece truly multi-faceted.

This captivating piece contrasts the structured and mechanical with the free flowing and natural. Loose lines snake throughout the composition behind an embossed, metallic form. We cannot quite pinpoint the subject of this striking work but are intrigued by the unusual textural and linear elements that seem contradictory yet co-exist harmoniously within this bold print.

One of 17 drypoints in the album Flux de l'aimant, this piece was the result of a collaboration between the poet René Char (1907 - 1988) and Joan Miró (1893-1983) combining Miró's drypoints with Char's meditations upon Miró's art. Miró's free flowing lines leave this work open to interpretation yet suggest the form of a ghoulish figure sweeping down in a circular motion, creating a sense of animation and intrigue.

This is particularly suggested by the 3 arrows pointing outward to the left of the composition.
