DISCUSSION:
Created in 1956, Corrida is an original color aquatint by Pablo Picasso (1881
- 1973) based on an original oil on canvas of the same title. Hand-signed in
pencil in the lower left, it is also numbered 27/200 in pencil in the lower
right margin. Printed by Aldo Crommelynck, the print features the embossed blindstamp
in the lower left margin; it reads: 'Atelier Crommelynck Paris' and further
engraved in the plate in black ink in the lower left: 'Aldo Crommelynck Grav.'
Published by Atelier Lacourière, Paris.
Incredibly bright and stunning to view in person, the colors in this print allow for an overall exciting and vibrant composition. Full of action and capturing the energy and emotion of an arena during a mid-summer's day, Corrida is one of Picasso's best prints. "In the work of Picasso, the bull is like one of those Spanish rivers, turbulent and agitated, which lose themselves among the brambles, rocks, and reeds, only to reappear later at some other place further on, in plain sight. There are times when it appears that the bull is adumbrated even in the 'figures' of the painter, figures as profound as they are debatable and enigmatic" (Marrero, 83).

The bright gold and dark black of the frame compliment the strong contrast in
this work and the undulating ribbon details of the moulding compliment the organic
shapes in the image. Completed with white, linen-wrapped mats and a matching
gold inner fillet, this work is set behind an archival Plexiglas® cover.
