DISCUSSION:
Created in 1951, this ceramic hollow plate was created from white earthenware
clay and finished in bold, dark green. Stamped on the reverse, 'Empreinte Originale
de Picasso' and 'Madoura plein feu'. This piece is from the very small and rare
edition of only 40.
Passionately expressive, technically detailed, and beautifully finished with a brilliantly bold, emerald-green glaze, this is a remarkable piece in excellent condition. A beautiful and lyrical man gracefully plays the flute, surrounded by a glowing Mediterranean sun and gentle landscape. Elegantly with detailed patterns and perhaps the most beautiful and subtle glaze work ever produced by Picasso, this spectacular work showcases the best of Picasso's technical and aesthetic accomplishments. There is delicate detailing throughout the piece that reflects Picasso's interest in the male form as both highly masculine and simultaneously very graceful.

and enhances the brightness of this work. The sculptural details of overlapping
