DISCUSSION:
Beautiful in composition, this work is vibrantly colored and bold in contrast.
The fruit bowl and branches evoke a sense of the tranquil serenity of natural
objects, while the bold colors and lines suggest a contrast of mechanical elements.
Printed by Maeght in Paris, this work has wide margins and was executed in 1952. Signed in the lower right hand corner by the artist, the work is numbered 154/300 in pencil in the lower left hand corner.
Bold and bright in color, this work expresses the brilliant hues of natural objects. Our attention is drawn to the vibrant yellow lemon sitting in the center of a vivid blue fruit bowl, surrounding it are vibrant green pears and leaves, and the warm ochre of the branches. The dark black lines throughout the image create contrast against the pale grey background, and make the multiple objects appear as one unified composition.
Of the contrast between the urban
experience and nature Leger stated, "An oak that can be destroyed in twenty
seconds takes a century to grow again. The birds are always marvelously dressed.
Progress is a word devoid of sense, and a cow which nourishes the world will
always do three kilometers an hour." (Saphire ,15).
DOCUMENTATION / COA: It is fully documented and referenced in (copies will be

ABOUT THE FRAMING:
This piece is set in a warm bronze tone gold leaf on black frame, complimenting
the bright colors within this work. The organic wavy line element of the moulding
of the frame enhances the shapes and linear elements within this piece. The

and cream linen matt.
