Historical Description

This brilliantly bold abstract work is striking in coloration and even more unique with its hand-applied pochoir.  The effect of this technique in color application allows for a richer, texturized coloration making the entire composition appear to leap from the artwork.  Our Femme verte is central to this piece, depicted in a stunning emerald green with deep hues of teal and light mint greens.  She is surrounded by a palette of complementary colors: sunny yellows, deep marigolds, red-oranges, and navy blues.  Even the alternating grey and black pattern of her striped skirt serve as a harmonizing contrast to her brighter, deeper color.  In the lower left, we can see her white cat with yellow stripes who is batting playfully on its back in her lap.

Created in 1955 – 1958, this color lithographwith  hand-applied pochoir on wove paper after an original oil on canvas created by Picasso in August of 1937.  Numbered from the edition of 100 in pencil in the lower right, this work is hand signed by Pablo Picasso (1881 – 1973) in pencil in the lower left. The original oil on canvas belongs to the Dr. Henri Laugier Collection, Paris.
