Historical Description

Picasso demonstrates a spectacular mastery of contrast and expression as a he crafts the character created on this plate has blue flushed cheeks and crossed out eyes, like a mysterious goddess of the night. She lies in a bed of blooming flowers and glows with white glistening moonlight. Streaks of blue and red are invigorating bursts of vitality against the stark ebony backdrop. Picasso continues to play with contrast by using a variety of textures light reflects the touches of glazed surface, allowing the viewer to become entranced by the striking imagery.
