Historical Description

With expressive fervor and graphic impact, this striking work demonstrates Miro's exquisite use of line. Heavy-handed black contours figure an otherworldly face, colored with vibrant pops of dense pigments. Utilizing the unusual shapes that emerge from overlapping forms, hybrids of crescents and triangles structure a creature with captivating features, and a piercing blue jewel for an eye animating the work with playful dynamism. While playful and undeniably representational, the artwork's stunning composition is designed with an accomplished reverence of formal abstraction.

Created in 1980, this work is hand signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right. Printed by Litografías artísticas Damià Caus, Barcelona and published by Col-legi d'arquitectes de Catalunya, Barcelona, this work is numbered from the edition of 75 printed before the lettering in pencil in the lower left.
