Historical Description

A rainbow of bold shapes performs a chaotic dance beneath a flurry of black drawing and texture. Defiant and brave, the work breaks the boundaries of abstract art with pride. Adopting a primitive language that values a childlike approach, it is free from conventions and able to be enjoyed without restrictive standards. Paired with a poem by Guy Levis Mano, "The traitor in the walled city," the image illustrates the triumphant moment when art overcomes the accepted rules.

Created in 1982, this color etching and aquatint on arches paper is hand signed in pencil by Joan Miro (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in the lower right corner. Printed by Joan Barbara, Barcelona, and published by Fata Morgana, Montpellier, this work is numbered from the edition of 100 in pencil below the lower left corner of the image and it is appears in the 24 page book. This work is aside from the numbered edition in roman numerals of 25 artist proofs.
