Historical Description

Renoir Enfants jouant à la balle (Children Playing Ball), c. 1900; This exquisite color Renoir  is world-renowned and highly recognized to be Renoir's best print. Each of the 10 colors found in the composition makes way for a stunningly captivating glimpse into these children's world; they are completely immersed in their carefree playground of a charmingly over-grown field on a bright summer's day. Not only do we see an intricate composition of four characters, we are welcomed into the work through its grand scale and sunny disposition.

Signed by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (Limoges, 1841- Cagnes-sur-Mer, 1919) in black in the stone in the lower right, this work is from the edition of 200 printed by Auguste Clot and published by Ambroise Vollard. Pulled in 10 colors on Arches Ingres laid paper, this work is one of only 4 color prints created by Renoir. Also known by another title, La Récolte des Pommes de Terre (The Gathering of Apples).
