Historical Description

Expressing the jovial nature of his work, Chagall depicts a scene of delight and peacefulness. To the right, a couple and small child stand with two turned in profile and one looking in our direction. What appears to be a stag stands to the left with its head turned up toward the bouquet and a petite figure is seated below, as a small bird flies above in the right. The bright flesh tones, yellows, and blues radiate off the page in contrast with the deep reds, greens, browns, and blacks. Overlapping colors and lines create a sense of texture, and the bold black lines of the figures make them stand out against the background.

Created in 1983, this work is printed on Arches wove paper. Hand-signed by Marc Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887- Saint-Paul, 1985) in pencil in the lower right margin, this work is numbered from the edition of 50 in the left margin.
