Historical Description

Created on the occasion of a 1965 exhibition at Galerie Maeght entitled "Cartons", this lively work combines spots of color with a circuitous flow. Anchoring and embracing the composition, the central black figure has humanoid and abstract qualities. Using long lines and strings of dots, Miró infuses the composition with directional movement that circles back on itself. The result is a unified and balanced lithograph, evocative of a field of flowers or stars in the sky. This original color lithograph was printed before the addition of lettering, highlighting the artist's trademark style.

Created in 1965, this original color lithograph is hand-signed in the lower right margin in pencil by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983). Numbered 78/100 in pencil in the lower left margin, this color lithograph and is from the edition printed prior to the addition of lettering. Several artist's proofs exist as well. This edition was published by Maeght, Paris and printed by Arte Adrien Maeght on Rives BFK vellum. An example from the poster edition is featured in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
