| Description: | |
Dazzling our eye with alluring optical effects, Yvaral’s use of segmented, striped abstraction captures our attention in this marvelous work. The artist’s ability to create a sense of three dimensionality in a painting takes the medium to a new and astounding level. Created in 1982, this original acrylic is hand signed by Yvaral in black ink in the lower center margin. This piece was used as a maquette for a 6-story mur-pignon created on the wall of 58 ter, rude du Louvre, Paris in 1982. On the reverse, there is handwritten text of the title, date, and archive number of the piece written by Yvaral, including his signature: “YVARAL / ‘Mona Lisa Synthetisée’ / 1982 / Prototype Pignon 58 Ter R. du Louvre – Paris / (signature) / No. ML 207” Considered perhaps the most famous portrait in history, Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa has been beautifully transformed and abstracted through Yvaral’s optical innovation. Using approximately 50 vertical stripes of varying widths, they are brought together to create this iconic visage, both manipulating positive and negative space while playing with ideas of depth perception. The piece consists of two colors: grey and white – its simplicity heralds Yvaral’s acute modernism coupled with his own take on the oncoming technological boom during the 1980s by referencing binary composition and fragmented space. Catalogue Raisonné & COA: 1. Documented as Yvaral archive number ML 207. 2. Arts en Parisis, YVARAL 22 Mars / 10 Mai / 86 – catalogue reference for large-scale piece as seen on the wall of 58 ter, rue du Louvre, Paris – 1982. 3. A Masterworks Fine Art, Inc. Certificate of Authenticity will be included with the sale of this work. About the Framing: | |
