Alex Adelman, Founder and President
Alex Adelman is the founder of Masterworks Fine Art, Inc. Collecting art has been his passion since the age of 15, when he acquired his first work-a Miró lithograph. He began building his knowledge as a teenager by working at an auction house describing auction lots. This opportunity lent him exposure to a wide range of collectibles and fine art. In college, at Washington University, St. Louis, Alex worked on three degrees: printmaking, anthropology, and art history. Later he did graduate work at the University of California, Berkeley. While in college, he continued to buy and sell fine art on a part-time basis.

In the late 80's, a turning point in his life, Alex made a move from academia to a career in selling fine art. In 1987 he went to work for a corporate art gallery with 37 stores worldwide. He managed, then directed, the largest gallery for the company. Employed there until 1993, Alex gained a substantial amount of experience and began formulating his ideas about a different way to sell art. He discovered that his values contrasted with the qualities and attributes of commercial galleries in high rent districts. What was crucial in his mind was knowing the importance of professionalism, honesty, and relationship-building.

To try out his ideas, Alex moved to e-commerce and started his own virtual art gallery in 1993, now located in the Oakland Hills. We provide these added benefits:
